How it was Between Me and Tim Russert
June 13, 2008 |
Tim Russert’s show was a mainstay for yours truly back in the 1990s, long before I grew too jaded to endure the mass volume of spin generated out of the Sunday News Shows, and before I concluded that whatever gems such shows managed to mine from their guests were of zero material given the general illiterate voting herd could care less. As such, the show, like the others in the niche, are purely for entertainment and too entrenched in the system.
Still, Russert was part of my Sunday routine in my first decade post college (I graduated the year he took the helm of Meet the Press), and always a familiar face with my Sunday read of the paper over coffee. I look back on those years with Tim, Sam and Cokey, and Tony Snow (before he crossed over to the dark side) with a small tinge of nostalgia. And, although I’ve sobered up form my addiction to political news, losing Tim is a bit like losing an old friend.
Bests to Russert’s family and colleagues as they deal with this unexpected loss.
