I just watched a piece on KDKA TV 2 done by KD investigator Marty Griffen. Griffen has been tipped off that late at night, the area’s PAT bus garages are not just largely unwatched, and when the facilities were visited — like the one at Harmar — they appeared largely abandoned. In fact, one of his sources whose voice and face required digital garbling to protect his identity noted that in the wee hours of the a.m., PAT employees entrusted with watching the facility are often sleeping.

On one hand, really — in a perfect world without criminals, you could leave buses at night and not have to worry. But when PAT employees are paid to watch amid concerns that terrorists might plant bombs on the vehicles. Well… that’s part for the course with government entities. At least the East Liberty garage now has regular watchmen, but it took several buses to be stolen before that took place.

Most absurd was the reaction of PAT local big wigs, who acted more like union bosses dodging Griffen’s questions, than concerned and conscientious CEOs of a well run business.

You can read up on Griffen’s report from the KDKA website here.
