NASA Blunt Honesty
September 28, 2005 |
It took only 25 years for the government’s space agency, NASA, to admit that its been wasting money on the wrong programs. Both the shuttle and the space station (being built at the moment) are the noted programs.
If the free market took that long to admit and correct its errors, we’d all be destitute and living in caves.
Note, the free market managed to get into space in a very short period of time competitively, albeit just recently.
It is claimed that much has been learned from the shuttle and that much will be learned from the space station. But at the cost of hundreds of billions of dollars ripped out of the economy, what new technology was not learned here on earth that would have advanced us in other ways that were more in demand with citizens’ priorities?
It is the classic broken window fallacy / the seen vs. the unseen that were discussed by Bastiat, Hayak and Hazlitt. If you are not familiar with any of those names, start with reading Hazlitt’s “Economics in One Lesson.” To read it is to take the red pill of knowledge (for those familiar with the reference) and learning about the existence of The Matrix. Those not familiar with the ideas contained therein have a massive blind spot on economics and politics. It is a must for those who would even disagree with its thesis.
