Clolsed Door Benefits
July 21, 2005 |
This is alarming… Benefits are a massive liability to our nation’s businesses and taxpayers. (For example, the benefit deals alone made years ago by GM will probably cause the company to go under. Of course, on a Federal level, we have citizen entitlements like Social Security and Medicare — topics discussed constantly about “will they go bankrupt, or not”, and for that matter, who is going to pick up the tab for the fact that they were ill conceived pyramid schemes raided clean of assets by Congress long ago.
But to our point, reading today that closed door meetings determining PA taxpayer obligations to the benefits of over 84,000 state employees are taking place as the norm since they started in 1988. Worse yet, it is apparently a problem to have some republican politicians sitting in on the meeting is a problem, as if oversight to the public will cause problems… Well, that is downright disgraceful… While the republicans seem most inclined to work against same sex benefits, we’d like to see a lot more oversight applied across the board.
As for keeping these trustee meetings in the dark, public employee organizations making such demands are not better than those in the General Assembly who just voted themselves a pay raise in the closing wee hours of last session before, most scuttling off into the night before having to answer for such garbage.
Either way, absent lots of daylight, the citizen taxpayers are sure to lose out, and lose out BIG!
