PA Has 3rd Highest Gas Tax
July 16, 2005 |
At $ .31 or $ .35 per gallon (depending on gas or diesal) in addition to the $ .18 the Feds’ tax charge, Pennsylvanians pay among the highest gas taxes in the nation at a total of $ 0.49 per gallon. According to gaspricewatch.com, only New York and Wyoming are higher… and Wyoming does not have an income tax, so at least it has a bit of an excuse.
If Pennsylvania wanted to make itself more competitive, it could cut those taxes dramatically and reduce the cost of doing business in Pennsylvania dramatically, which would be a reason for businesses and jobs to locate in PA instead of the current trends that scare them off…
Of course, that’d mean PA would have to cut some fat… So we may as whistle Dixie in the wind while th outflow of jobs continues, instead of hoping for any reductions.
