Its hard to believe its against the law… but in the free nation of the United States, in one of the original colonies called Pennsylvania, adult citizens are not trusted to purchase cases of beer on Sundays. There is simply a law against it…

That is, unless a law being pushed (finally) in the PA legislature is passed that would allow beer sales from noon to five on Sundays.

Of course, one can visit any number of states that allow quantity beer purchases on Sundays (starting much earlier and ending much later AND with the consumer in mind, at grocery stores and all sorts of other venues the market suports), and – low and behold – those states do not fall apart, nor do their citizens in any statistically different numbers vs. PA, worship the devil for having the simple freedom to purchase lagers and ales on the “day of the lord.”.

Let’s hope this law is passed to allow for a more consumer friendly state. Let’s also hope someday we Pennsylvanians catch up to the 20th century, even if a bit late, and allow adults to purchase beer and wine where they buy their groceries and on Sundays. That simply requires the citizens of the State to grow up a bit and to start voting to treat each other with a bit more adult-like respect. And of course, there is the Land of the Free thing, too.

You might also note that in the many states that allow the craziness of [ghasp!!] buying beer and wine in grocery stores, again, society remains functioning… Clearly the liquor laws in PA are not about consumers and freedom, and are more about protecting the mini monopolies held by those earning a living in the beer and liquor industries.]
